‘Right to fight bid for 252ft turbine’

Residents concerned about plans for a 252ft wind turbine near Whitland should raise any issues as their democratic right, the town’s mayor has said.

The application to site the 77-metre turbine at Drefach Farm, Henllan Amgoed, less than a mile from Whitland, has been submitted by Gethin Gibbin.

A public meeting was held at Whitland Town Hall, chaired by David King, of Henllanfallteg Community Council.

Councillor Bryan Haddon had warned of the danger of using the argument of not in my back yard – Nimbyism – as an objection.

However, Whitland’s mayor Vivienne Morris – speaking in an unofficial capacity – stressed objections could be made.

“Do not be afraid of nimbyism, who else is going to stand up for you? It is not a derogative term, it is standing up for your rights, nimbyism is protecting you, your family and your heritage.

“If it’s found to be a good application then the application will go through.”

Alison Upstill, of Gwynfryn, Cwmfelin Boeth, raised concerns, saying: “When I’m outside my house the sun is there all day, now I feel as if I’m moving into the War of the Worlds with this massive thing.”

Those present heard Mr Gibbin was unable to attend.
