Some Jefferson County lawmakers say they’re ready to wage a long battle against wind power development.
The federal government is trying to streamline the process with an eye toward putting turbines on Lake Ontario.
It’s a proposal local leaders continue to oppose, saying it will do more harm than good.
“What I think we’re trying to do is stop it, stop stupidity from happening, said District 11 legislator Bobby Ferris.
“We have tourist destination here that draws people from, you know, half-way across the country,” said District 9 Legislator Barry Ormsby, “so it’s really disheartening to see this whole thing take shape.”
Meeting Tuesday night, a committee of the Jefferson County Legislature passed a resolution opposing New York state’s role in developing wind power on Lake Ontario.
The full legislature will vote on the resolution next month.
