Highway to be shut down to remove turbine tower from ditch

KSNT NBC 27, www.ksnt.com

On Thursday/Friday, April 12-13, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, all lanes of eastbound and westbound US-56 will be CLOSED from K-31/US-56 junction in Osage County to the K-99/US-56 junction in Lyon County so crews can remove semi trailer rollover from ditch. The semi trailer was carrying a wind turbine tower, which combined weigh approximately 240,000 lbs. and the trailer with turbine tower are upside down in ditch along the highway. (See attached photo)

There will be no marked detour, but a suggested detour for traffic: take US-56 in Osage County to Burlingame, then west on K-31 to K-99, then back south on K-99 to US-56. Eastbound local traffic can access US-56 from K-31 in Osage County to K-78 in Lyon County; westbound local traffic can access US-56 from the KS Turnpike to K-99 in Lyon County. Drivers must use alternate routes during the road closure.

Project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, April 13, weather permitting.
