Benshinnie plans move forward

Plans for a £90 million windfarm near Parton have taken a step forward.

Burcote Wind is behind the scheme for the Benshinnie development, which could see as many as two dozen turbines erected.

And the Fife-based company has now lodged an environmental impact assessment (EIA) scoping report with the council.

The document covers a wide range of areas that are likely to be affected, such as wildlife, tourism and the environment, if the windfarm gets the go-ahead.

And it claims that, due to extensive forests and nearby hills, “the substantial potential visibility of the proposed development is largely restricted to the A713 road corridor and the area surrounding Castle Douglas”.

Burcote Wind is proposing to build as many as 24, 125-metre high turbines generating a total of 72 megawatts of electricity.

And they claim they plan to put £5 million into the local community during the farm’s 25-year lifespan.
