Anger at Kiln Pit Hill windfarm amendments

By Pat Tully, The Journal, www.journallive.co.uk 5 April 2012

Controversial changes to a wind farm application will be allowed to go ahead despite protests from nearby residents.

RWE npower Renewables, which is building a six-turbine site at Kiln Pit Hill near the Northumberland-Durham border, has been allowed to amend conditions relating to birds and blade noise.

Northumberland County Council’s planning and environment committee unanimously approved the changes.

The 100-metre-high turbines stand close to an occupied cottage farm which the council describes as an “unauthorised dwelling”.

But parish councillor Laura Hessel, who lives in a caravan and keeps horses on the site at Greymare Hill Farm, insists her home is properly registered.

She is worried that her horses will be affected by the flicker and shadow cast by the turbine blades.

Ms Hessel added: “To allow Kiln Pit Hill wind farm developers to alter their original planning application again, to their advantage and the detriment of the local inhabitants who work and live adjacent to these turbines, is totally unacceptable.

“Large companies cannot be allowed to hold people to ransom in this manner.”

Planning permission for the Kiln Pit Hill windfarm was granted on appeal in February 2009.

But five local objectors raised concerns over the level of public consultation as well as the impact on both the Greymare Hill Farm caravan and other local residents living further away.
