Wind energy guidelines voluntary, not mandatory

Williams News, www.williamsnews.com 3 April 2012

This is a response to Energy Secretary Salazar’s article in the March 28 Williams News edition (New voluntary guidelines, to protect wildlife from dangers of wind energy).

If Mr. Salazar was really serious about this problem, he would have addressed it as mandatory, not voluntary.

This only says to the public that we are semi-concerned. Wind developers can use these guidelines if they want to. It is not a requirement. So the slaughter of eagles, hawks, raptors and thousands of other “protected species” will undoubtedly continue – status quo.

Wind developers will continue to deceive the public, and bureaucrats in Washington with their half-baked sales pitches, and continued lobbying for more extended tax subsidies (for profits, not renewable energy).

It would be smart to have Washington to require substantial proof of less costly workable renewable energy through data presented by success examples of past projects instead of (it can produce power for 50,000 homes). What this leaves out is, “If they are running on maximum capacity,” which is seldom the case.
