Wind turbines wrong for Kalida, area

The Lima News, www.limaohio.com 2 April 2012

Progress, some say. Since when is it progress to jeopardize people’s health and well being, not to mention their rights and property?

I am not against the progress to use wind turbines for energy. I am against the proposed location of these wind giants at KMI in Kalida. They should be placed in an isolated area miles from any residence. Wind turbines have their place, and Kalida is not it.

This proposed location is way too close to many people’s homes and property on Road M and U.S. 224. This will have a major impact on these people. Kalida Village Council and area residents who approve of these wind turbines need to take into consideration all of those people who live close to the site. Many cities are passing zoning laws to ban turbines.

Besides the health-related issues these people will be subjected to, they will also have to endure loss of property value. These people affected are residents – many lifelong residents – of our community. They may be your friend, your neighbor, co-worker or even your relative. We need to show our support to them by opposing these zoning issues.

If these zoning issues pass and wind turbines are allowed in our community, it would have a lifetime effect on all of us. If we allow these, there will be more to come. Don’t fool yourself and think these wind turbines won’t affect you because of their location; it just might be that the next proposed site is in your backyard.

Show your support. Take a stand against wind turbines in Kalida and the surrounding area.
