Wind farm public meeting to be held in Burra

Mid North Wind Farm Awareness and Stop Industrial Wind Turbines will jointly hold a public meeting in the Supper Room of the Town Hall at 7.30pm tomorrow night, Tuesday April 3, about the proposed Stony Gap Wind Farm.

“…Regional Council of Goyder’s Draft Strategic Directions Report states that a large percentage of survey respondents commented that they felt ill-informed about wind farm developments and would appreciate more information about proposals,” spokesperson for, Mid North Wind Farm Awareness Mary Morris said.

“This is hardly surprising, as the new assessment rules don’t require Councils to give any public notification of wind farm developments, except neighbours to a project.

“Furthermore, the development plans from new projects are no longer available to be viewed in the council offices by the general public.

“Our public meeting on Tuesday night plans to redress this lack of information.”

The Stony Gap turbines will commence 4.5 km South West of Burra and will be highly visible from the elevated parts of the town and also from the Barrier Highway.

The planned 41 turbines will run for 19 km along prominent ridgelines of the Tothill Belt and will impact greatly on the tourist drive around Porters Lagoon and Old Adelaide Rd.

A substation will be built adjacent to the Old Adelaide Rd and a new section of high voltage grid line will connect the new Stony Gap substation to the Robertstown substation.
