Wind farms developments under scrutiny

ABC South East SA, www.abc.net.au 30 March 2012

A parliamentary inquiry will consider wind farm developments in South Australia.

The Opposition was keen for a committee to look at the social, health and economic impacts of wind farms and the cost of wind energy.

Opposition frontbencher David Ridgway said a range of issues needed to be considered.

“Certainly when it comes to noise and discomfort one of the things I’d like the committee to do is to actually spend a couple of nights in a house because they (the residents) say they can’t live any more because the noise is so great,” he said.

“I’d like to spend a night there myself because the proponents of wind farms say that they meet all of the EPA (Environment Protection Authority) noise guidelines and some of these people appear very distressed.”
