Glapwell wind farm plan switch

A renewable energy firm planning to build a wind farm to the south of Bolsover has revised its plans for the development after consultation with council planning chiefs.

Barlborough-based company Banks Renewables has amended plans for the Losk Lane wind farm, which would be situated on land to the north of Glapwell, approximately two miles to the east of the M1 motorway.

The original scheme design encompassed three turbines, but following feedback from Bolsover District Council’s planning office, the company has decided to reduce the development to just two, with the turbine that was to be located to the south east of Palterton being removed from the plans.

“All the way through the design and public engagement process for Losk Lane, we have gone to great lengths to listen to and act on the feedback we’ve had from all parties,” said Phil Dyke, development director at Banks Renewables.

“Altering the design in this way lessens the development’s impact on the village of Palterton, and we hope it will enable us to bring forward the wide range of community benefits that would result for our planning application’s approval.”

The multi-million pound investment would generate enough energy to meet the annual electricity requirements of up to 3,476 homes.

The project also includes plans to introduce a Warm Zone Scheme with a £50,000 investment to help access grants for energy improvements for nearby residents such as cavity wall insulation and loft insulation.

“Utilising onshore wind farms like Losk Lane to update the UK’s power infrastructure today is already helping to address the energy challenges that we know the 21st Century will bring, and we firmly believe that this updated design is entirely suited to its location,” added Mr Dyke.

Campaigners opposed to the wind farm have raised concerns over noise pollution and have argued that it will be too near to homes but Banks claims that the noise can be controlled.

Bolsover District Council will be carrying out further consultation work, with a view to the application being heard by its planning committee in the coming weeks.
