Locals put up signs to oppose wind farm development

Protesters against a massive windfarm development have been putting up bilingual banners near their homes.

Signs have been dotted around Mynydd Mynyllod, near Corwen to oppose ScottishPower’s plans to build 25 turbines, each 145m tall, in Upper Dee Valley.

The protests’ aim is to surround the area, which includes Llandrillo, Cynwyd, Llandderfel, and communities along the busy A494, with placards in a bid to alert visitors and residents of the scheme.

Already STEMM (Stop The Exploitation Of Mynydd Mynyllod) has hundreds of people signed up on its supporters’ list including businesses who fear their trade could be affected if the proposed wind farm leads to a fall in visitors.

Chair of the group, Andrew Jedwell, said: “I’m delighted with the increasing level of public support that we are seeing at STEMM as more and more people are prepared to declare their opposition to this completely inappropriate proposal.

“These giant turbines will dominate the lovely landscape of the Dee Valley and will undermine the tourism sector which is such an important part of the local economy.”
