Bats delay turbine

The Citizen, www.thisisgloucestershire.co.uk 27 March 2012

Bats are holding up controversial plans for a wind turbine on the edge of Coleford.

Entrepreneur Ronald Kear wants to build an 86 metre mast on land at Poolway Farm and submitted his proposals to district council planning chiefs back in October.

But consultee Natural England wants a thorough survey completed on the impact the turbine would have on local bat populations, meaning the planning process has been held up.

Mr Kear has also been told by council officers that the visual impact of the turbine is likely to prove a big stumbling block.

In a letter to him, planning officer Emma Norgate said the impact of the turbine is likely to lead to a recommendation to refuse the application when the council’s Development Control Committee eventually consider it. It’s due to be heard on April 2.
