Windfarm plan 100 yards from homes

A wind energy company has applied to build a wind farm on farmland, just 100 metres away from homes.

The application at the rear of Ashworth Farm, near Weir, is for 20 five kW ‘micro-turbines’ with a maximum height of 20.75 metres to blade tip.

The plans come just weeks after council planners threw out a bid for four 34.2 metre high turbines at Scar End Farm, also in Weir.

Coun Jimmy Eaton urged residents to oppose the latest application in writing, due to ‘disruption on land and highways’.

He said: “We have just had one similar application refused in Weir and this one is on a much larger scale. The other one was 300 metres away from properties, but we’re talking about 100 metres with this one.”

Campaigners, including the War on Weir Wind Farm group, have previously expressed fears about the visual impact on the landscape of nearby wind developments at Cliviger, Todmorden Moor and Reaps Moss.

Bosses from London-based Quietrevolution, who are behind the scheme, say the closest residential properties all front on to busy Burnley Road, and therefore noise disturbance will not be ‘significant’.
