Thumbs down to this flimsy plan

The Guardian, www.theguardian.pe.ca 21 March 2012

Given the fact that, to date, there has never been a windmill, solar panel or hybrid vehicle that has paid for itself, it seems preposterous that the Ghiz government has the unmitigated arrogance to proceed (without mandate from all Islanders) to smother us with another addition to our already unmanageable debt load (The Guardian, March 13, 2012).

If Mr. Ghiz insists on mixing politics with green energy projects he would do well to consider the ‘green’ mess that Premier Dalton McGuinty of Ontario has created for his province. In her newspaper column (The Globe and Mail, March 15, 2012), journalist Margaret Wente writes as follows: “Everything Mr. McGuinty believed about alternative energy turned out to be spectacularly wrong. Today, despite billions of dollars of investment, the total energy contributed by wind power to the global energy supply can be rounded out to zero. Wind power is not an efficient source of energy and never will be because it always needs a backup system for times when the wind doesn’t blow.”

We must come down hard on this government’s latest flimsy plan. It’s time to quash Mr. Ghiz’ daydreams – he’s not equipped to play with the big boys.
