Turbine resumes operations under observation

The MWRA reports that it delayed the turbine’s Friday operations until Monday so that the group could monitor its return.

This weekend’s turbine inactivity was just a precautionary delay, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority reported Monday morning.

“Folks wanted to monitor it for the first few days, so they didn’t run it on the weekend,” said spokesperson Ria Convery in an email. “But I just drove by, and it’s running now.”

Her agency had previously reported that the turbine should be spinning by Friday. When it didn’t resume operation, Charlestown Patch commenter Bill Carson posted on our page on Saturday and Sunday to let us—and everyone else who reads this site—know.

Carson also noted Monday morning that the turbine had not yet begun turning. Presumably, his 7:09 a.m. update came before technicians put the windmill back in service.

Convery added: “The developer, Lumus Construction, has installed numerous turbines in Massachusetts, including 3 at our Deer Island Treatment Plant; and yes, we still have to do some work on the foundation, that’s why the 25-mile and hour limit for now. We should have a schedule for the repairs this week.”
