Action group welcome ‘no’ on wind farm

An action group opposed to plans to build a wind farm near Swansea say they are thrilled with the outcome of an appeal.
They have welcomed a decision by the Court of Appeal in London which overturned a High Court ruling which gave RWE Npower Renewables Ltd a chance at trying for planning permission for a 19-turbine wind farm at Mynydd y Gwair.
Instead, it upheld a decision made by Welsh ministers refusing permission at the site on the northern outskirts of Swansea.
Glyn Morgan, farmer and chairman of the action group Save Our Common Mountain Environment, said: “We are pleased with the outcome of the appeal.
“It showed again that Npower’s development is not welcomed on Mynydd y Gwair.
“SOCME still believes, and so too does the Welsh Government and everyone else locally, that Mynydd y Gwair is not a suitable site for a wind farm owing to its beautiful and protected landscape.”
Lord Justice Pill has backed a planning inspector’s decision which underlined a wind farm could not be allowed on the grounds it would have a “harmful effect of the proposed development on the peat bog habitat.”
He added: “The issue was as to the precise position in which the turbines should be located.”
