Windwise protests at blade signing

FAIRHAVEN – About 25 protestors from Windwise stood in front of one side of the blade Saturday as other residents signed it. The blade signing was publicized in advance by the selectmen’s office.

In an e-mail to the newspaper before the event, Windwise organizer Kenneth Pottel said the blade signing was a waste of taxpayer money. “I believe I speak for most of our Windwise people on this matter. We would like someone to explain to us why the resources of the town of Fairhaven are being used to market an event for the developer.”

He added, “Keep in mind most of the turbine projects such as Falmouth’s were town owned and this one is owned by the developer. The town has signed a contract giving him control of the project. The town has also given him a lease so that he now controls the site that the turbines are on.

“Our taxpayer money is being used to market a private company’s project. There are many in the town who oppose this project and it is salt in the wound to see the town actively marketing this project. Where is the justice to this?”

Several opponents made their opposition known in their comments on the blade. A few are shown in photos here.
