‘We will fight wind turbines all the way’

Protesters against the construction of two Carlton Scroop wind turbines have vowed to fight on after the council planning committee deferred the decision.

The two turbines, which would be 39.6m high, have been proposed for land off Main Street, Carlton Scroop.

South Kesteven District Council planning officers recommended the proposal for approval, but after a lengthy debate in the council chambers on Tuesday the councillors voted 15 to two to defer the decision while ecological and acoustic surveys are conducted.

Mike Robinson, who is a member of Carlton Scroop Parish Council and the action group opposing the wind turbines, was pleased that the application was not approved.

He said: “We will continue to fight against the turbines. To me it seemed quite clear that they were close to rejecting the proposal outright.”

During the debate 11 people from the villages surrounding the proposed turbine site spoke against the application listing factors such as distance from housing, wildlife and light flicker as reasons to reject the application. But the agent speaking on behalf of land owner Dick Baines, Conor McAllister, said the turbines would reduce carbon emissions and the visible impact would be reduced by trees screening them.
