Call for wind farm rates to fund noise monitoring

ABC Western Victoria, www.abc.net.au 14 March 2012

A Southern Grampians’ resident, Keith Staff, wants the council to use rates paid by the Oaklands Hill Wind Farm, near Glenthompson, to fund noise monitoring.

Mr Staff is the president of the Southern Grampians Landscape Guardians and has submitted a question about the wind farm to tonight’s council meeting.

He says it is unclear who is responsible for monitoring planning permits at the 30-turbine AGL facility.

Mr Staff says it makes sense for the wind farm’s owners to pay for noise monitoring.

“That money paid by proponents, a certain amount of it should specifically be allocated to make sure that the permit application’s rules and regulations and conditions are applied, through an independent body,” he said.
