Bicton wind farm plans dismissed after public inquiry

Plans for a wind farm near Kimbolton in Cambridgeshire have been rejected after a public inquiry.

Broadview Energy had appealed against a decision by Huntingdonshire District Council to reject plans for four 410ft-high (125m) turbines at Bicton.

A government planning inspector concluded the turbines would have a “distracting and alien impact”.

A Broadview spokesman said it still believed Bicton was a good location and was considering its next step.

He said: “We believed we had found the correct balance between maximising the energy generation of the proposal and minimising impacts on the local environment.”

Jonathan Gray, district councillor for Kimbolton, described the decision as “a good day for localism and our community”.

“I am delighted with the outcome, not just the result itself but because residents, parish councils, the action group [Stop Bicton Wind Farm] and the district council all worked together in a united and effective way,” he said.

The district council said the inspector’s decision supported its concerns about harm to both the environment and the area’s heritage.
