Wind contract gets signed

ANTRIM – Passage of a contractual agreement last week between the town and Antrim Wind Energy LLC – the first binding document that explicitly lays out the provisions of local wind energy development – could regulate a proposed 10-turbine facility pending approval from the state.

The agreement, which Antrim Wind, a subsidiary of Eolian Renewable Energy, initially proposed to town officials in August of 2011, sets out guidelines for town road usage, turbine height, setbacks and noise restrictions.

The facility proposal, which would build a 30-megawatt wind farm on Tuttle Hill and Willard Mountain, was handed over to the jurisdiction of the state Site Evaluation Committee last summer due to the size of the project.

An application for the wind farm is currently on file with the SEC, and the extent to which it will consider the agreement in its review of the wind plan is unclear at this time.
