Agreement signed for offshore wind farm

EAST YORKS: Further agreements for connections from an offshore wind farm to the National Grid have been agreed.
Three 1GW grid connections have been signed by the National Grid and the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm developers, Forewind, adding to the 3GW signed since the zone off the east Yorkshire coast was awarded in 2010.
As the wind farm will be miles from the coastline, companies need to agree how and where the power will be supplied to the mainland.
The latest agreements are for connections located in Teeside and Yorkshire.
They could feasibly generate as much green energy per year as the total amount of electricity used by homes and industry in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
It is likely the Yorkshire connection will got to the Creyke Beck substation near Cottingham.
Forewind hopes to achieve consent for at least 9GW of offshore wind farm projects, with a potential capacity for the Dogger Bank zone of up to 13GW.
This would equate to almost 10 per cent of the UK’s electricity requirements.
