Wind farm protestors plan to whip up a storm at March 6th planning hearing

Villagers in Carlton Scroop and Normanton are hoping to persuade district councillors to ignore their officers next week and reject plans for two wind turbines.

The two 40m-high wind turbines would be erected at Lodge Farm to the north-west of the village, if they are given the green light by councillors at South Kesteven District Council’s Development Control Committee on Tuesday.

Mike Robinson is a parish councillor for Carlton Scroop and Normanton Parish Council and also a member of the Carlton Scroop and Normanton Action on Wind Turbines group.

He said: “We have got a very attractive village environment here, both in Carlton Scroop and in Normanton. People have come here for the peace and quiet of the rural countryside.”

Mr Robinson said parish council meetings on the subject have seen 60 or 70 people come along to have their say on the proposal.

Anyone driving through Carlton Scroop on their way to Lincoln can’t help but notice the many anti-wind farm signs spread throughout the village.

However, for the plans to be rejected, councillors would need to go against planning officers recommendations.

Michael Worth of Carlton Scoop Hall said he lives as close as anyone to the proposed turbines site.

Mr Worth said: “The addition of two more turbines would have a devastating effect on the landscape and sky-line between Grantham and Carlton Scroop.

“The proposed two turbine site is of practically nil benefit to the local community.”
