UKIP candidate in wind mast vow

The final candidate for the forthcoming Hertford by-election has spoken to the Mercury

UKIP candidate Michael James is a businessman who has lived in the area all of his life.

The staunch wind farm campaigner, who lives in Coniston Road in Scarborough, has campaigned tirelessly for better council services for the elderly.

He has been nominated by the party due to his ‘dedication’ in stopping local services being axed.

Mr James strongly believes that the Hertford Ward gets a ‘raw deal’ from Scarborough Council, adding: “It’s disgusting that the Hunmanby Library is now being closed.

“We understand that we need to tighten our belts, but to be cutting vital services that form part of our community hub is not the way forward, rural villages have just as much need as our bigger towns.

“I will fight hard to make sure Scarborough Borough Council realise this.”

As branch chairman of the local UKIP party, he has vehemently campaigned alongside current MEP Godfrey Bloom on the issue of wind farms.

“You Vote Conservative, Labour or Liberal and you get wind turbines; it’s their party policy,” said Mike,

“I stand for the only political group with an Anti Wind Farm Policy, I couldn’t represent a national organisation that didn’t believe what I believe.

“To say you don’t want wind farms locally when you know your colleagues are promoting them nationally just seems nonsense to me, you have to stand up for what you believe in.”

His comments come a week after the other three candidates contesting the recently vacated seat spoke to the Mercury.

Mr James will contest the election on Thursday March 15 alongside Conservative candidate and Hunmanby Parish Council Chairman Michelle Donohue Moncrieff, Vanda Inman of Labour and Lib Dem Bob Jackman.

Polling cards for residents within the ward are being prepared and will be issued shortly with polling taking place between the hours of 7am and 10pm.

Scarborough Council have stated that five polling stations will be open on the day.
