Protest against windfarms

A protest against the number of wind turbines in Aberdeenshire took place outside Aberdeenshire Council’s headquarters this week.

Demonstrators staged the demonstration outside Woodhill House on Monday as Councillors arrived to take part in a seminar which was looking at new ways of considering Wind Turbine applications.

Protesters hoped to put pressure on the Councillors so that they would not give the go-ahead to any more wind farms.

They also felt that the seminar should have been open to the public so that they could ensure that those taking part are given all the facts.

They hit out at the landscape being “needlessly” spoiled by windturbines and describes Scotland as “unregulated.”

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: “The seminar was arranged to provide members with an overview of some of the challenges for the council as a result of wind turbine applications.

“The planning process and related policies were examined with a view to identifying whether changes to current practices need to be made. In addition, members were appraised of the current planning considerations and how they are applied.

“As with other information seminars for councillors, this is not a decision-making event, although views gathered could help shape any future changes to wind turbine guidance and the planning process.”

Wind turbines in Aberdeenshire has always been a controversial subject with it being revealed that in 2011 Aberdeenshire Council received five times as many turbine applications as the biggest local authority in Scotland.
