Holywell councillors object to wind turbine plans

Community leaders in Holywell have voted to object to plans which could see two wind turbines bigger than Big Ben built on the site of a business park.

Insulated panels company Kingspan, based on Greenfield Business Park, wants to build the 110m structures to save on energy costs.

But town councillors have raised concerns about the plans and are worried about the visual impact on the area and noise levels.

Speaking at a town council meeting last week Greenfield councillor Rosetta Dolphin said: “Flintshire County Council has decided to do its own visual impact study. I totally agree with that. Also, we don’t know enough about noise levels. I would be asking we put refusal for this.

“Kingspan have said they will use 70% of the energy and 30% will be sold back to the National Grid. If they can get rid of 30% do they need two of that size?”

The company has met with residents to discuss their concerns and is working with consultants Wind Direct on the project.

Cllr Robin Baker said the visual impact would be ‘overwhelming’.

Cllr Peter Curtis added: “The other big concern is whether is sets a precedent for the coast line.”
