CANTON – A public informational meeting on a plan by Patriot Renewables LLC to build eight wind turbines on Canton Mountain has been postponed until March 22.

The hearing, sponsored by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, had been scheduled for 6 p.m. March 1. Because of the anticipated snowstorm, the DEP decided to postpone it.

Patriot Renewables LLC, doing business as Canton Mountain Wind LLC, wants to build a 22 megawatt wind farm. The application for the project was accepted by the DEP as complete in mid-January.

Patriot Renewables also has several other planned projects, including one in Dixfield and one in Carthage. Its project on Spruce Mountain in Woodstock is up and running.

In addition to the March 22 public meeting, a second one will be held at a later date to be announced, at which time DEP Commissioner Patricia Aho will attend.

A public written comment period will also be announced.

The March 22 meeting will be held at the Canton Municipal Building at 28 Cross St.
