Spiddle Hill to get second turbine?

TATAMAGOUCHE – The province has approved a 50-kilowatt wind project at the Spiddle Hill Wind Farm near Tatamagouche.

The wind farm, owned by the Colchester-Cumberland Wind Field Community Economic Development Corporation, is one of five projects announced Monday by Energy Minister Charlie Parker.

The turbine will be the second for Spiddle Hill. There is already an 80-kilowatt tower and there are plans for a second 80-kilowatt turbine and another 50-kilowatt turbine.

The projects are being organized through the Community Feed-In Tariff program, announced in 2010 through the Renewable Electricity Plan.

COMFIT provides eligible groups an established price per kilowatt hour for projects producing electricity from wind, biomass, in-stream tidal and run-of-the-mill tidal developments.

More than 20 community groups have submitted more than 90 locally-based renewable energy proposals through the program. Potential applicants can contact the program administrator at comfit@gov.ns.ca to discuss projects.
