Desert preservation group sponsors photography contest

A desert preservation group is sponsoring a photography contest limited to images of Black Lava Butte and Flat Top Mesa, two volcanic mesas located northwest of Yucca Valley, as well as the plants and animals that live on them. All of the images will be included in an exhibition May 20 at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace during a spring fundraising event organized by the contest sponsor, Save Our Desert. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded that day. Winning photos will be printed, framed and sold to the public to support Save Our Desert’s mission to protect the mesas from wind farm development. For more information, visit the group’s website, www.saveourdesert.com. To enter, submit high-resolution digital images on a CD in either Jpeg or Tiff format, and mail: Save Our Desert, P.O. Box 298, Pioneertown, CA 92268, noting which category you’re entering. Submissions are limited to three images per person. Deadline is April 30. The entry categories: Section A ¬ younger than 8 years of age; Section B ¬ 8 to 16 years of age; Section C ¬ 17 and older; Section D ¬ professional photographers.
