Keep wind turbine decisions local

Appleton Post-Crescent, www.postcrescent.com 25 February 2012

There are a lot of people more educated than I am on the subject of wind power, but I have done some research. It took me no time at all to find a survey online from Town of Lincoln residents who had wind towers. I have also heard first-hand from residents of Johnsburg who are living with wind towers.

The picture painted wasn’t pretty. There were health problems reported with people and animals, reception problems, diminished property values and other problems. Also, some reported that Flight For Life couldn’t land in the Johnsburg area because of the wind towers. How would you like to be forced to live under these conditions?

There is no help given to those who choose not to. Wind companies typically are not willing to buy people out, neither are local governments, and much of the time, people cannot sell their properties because of the wind towers.

I believe that the siting should be left to local governments. Hopefully, they will look out for the health and welfare of their residents.

There’s a lot of information if people are willing to take the time to research it. A lot of tax dollars are going into wind power. I don’t believe that it’s as cost-effective and safe as people are led to think. They also say that the same number of coal-fired generators are still needed because wind is not a steady source of energy.
