A member of the European Parliament visited the Burnham-On-Sea area on Thursday (February 23rd) and give his support to campaigners fighting a proposed wind farm development.

Giles Chichester, Conservative MEP and Energy Spokesman for the South West, visited East Brent and Rooksbridge at the invitation of the NoPilrow Campaign, who are opposed to the Rooksbridge Wind Farm.

He was told how energy firm Broadview plans to build four 130 metre tall wind turbines that would be as tall as Brent Knoll.

“Mr Chichester is very supportive of our opposition to the scheme and was happy to meet us,” a NoPilrow spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The MEP was given a tour around the planned wind farm site and was able to see for himself the existing met mast, which is only a little over half the height and a fraction of the width of the proposed turbines.”

“Afterwards, he was taken back to the Battleborough Grange hotel where he was able to get a clear view over the Somerset Levels and to see the visual and environmental effects these turbines would have.”

Members of East Brent Parish Council and County Councillor John Denbee, plus members of the Wells Conservative Association, were present at the meeting.
