NoPilrow group release new mock-up image

A group campaigning against plans for a wind farm at Rooksbridge near Burnham has released a new mock-up image of how the development might look.

The NoPilrow Committee has created the image showing how the four 130-metre turbines may appear from the motorway bridge at Rooksbridge, where the A38 and M5 cross.

The image was released ready for the group’s first information session tomorrow night (February 22) at Mark Village Hall.

Spokesman for NoPilrow, David Maund said: “Now the heights and positions of the turbines have been decided, we have used special software to give an impression of how the turbines might look if they were constructed.”

NoPilrow is concerned about the distraction it feels the four turbines may cause to the drivers on the M5, especially for motorists driving South and emerging from beneath the A38 bridge at Rooksbridge.

Mr Maund added: “We are anxious to see some of Broadview’s montages as they will obviously play a large part in understanding what an enormous visual impact these structures will have on our locality.”

Tom Cosgrove, Broadview’s project manager, said: “The Highways Agency has been consulted on our proposal and has not raised any objection.

“If the proposal goes ahead, the four turbines at Pilrow are likely to be visible in the distance as drivers emerge through the Mendip Hills travelling southbound on the M5, and will gradually become more apparent in the view as motorists approach.

“We are confident that the presence of the Pilrow wind farm will not compromise highway safety.”

The two Broadview community exhibitions held yesterday (February 20) showed residents the turbine locations and photographic representations of what the site will look like. The NoPilrow meetings are on Wednesday, February 22, at Mark Village Hall from 7pm to 9pm; Thursday, February 23, at the Wellington Arms, Rooksbridge, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm; and Monday, February 27, at East Brent Village Hall from 7pm to 9pm.
