Windfarm action group TAG fly blimp to show scale of turbine development

Tove Action Group (TAG) which is opposing the proposed wind farm between Alderton and Towcester Racecourse has today stepped up its campaign with the first flight of a large blimp. The orange balloon is being flown at the height of the wind turbines that would be built on the site.

A spokesperson for TAG said today:
“The point of this is to raise people’s awareness of the scale of the wind turbines. These are enormous structures – the masts are 80 metres tall and the overall height to the tip of the blade is 125 metres – that is 410 feet. By flying the blimp at this height people will have a much clearer visual impression of how colossal these industrial turbines really are, and the blimp just represents one of these – if the plans by Gamesa go ahead there could be 8 turbines across the valley.”

Over the coming weeks TAG will be flying the blimp at a number of locations around the proposed site to simulate the location of the 8 turbines.

A resident of Alderton commented:
“I had heard about the possibility of the wind farm but I am really shocked by how tall they would be! Seeing the blimp flying over the village really makes you realise how we would be completely dwarfed by this wind farm.”
