People power against turbines

Leyland Guardian, www.leylandguardian.co.uk 19 February 2012

South Ribble MP Lorraine Fullbrook is backing a campaign to stop wind farms being built in the area.

She has joined over 100 Parliamentary colleagues in signing an open letter to the Prime Minister urging a reduction in the amount of subsidy given to onshore wind power.

Lorraine recently helped residents in their successful fight against wind turbines being built on green belt land between Little Hoole and Midge Hall, and the planning application was withdrawn.

She said: “I am delighted to have helped the local residents and to have added my name to this campaign.

“I’m keen to see the amount of money available in subsidy for onshore wind reduced, and spread equally across other renewable energy types.”

She added: “Recent wind turbine applications in our local area, such as in Little Hoole, have received a very hostile response from residents and I believe that it is important that the new planning regime ensures that local people’s views are taken fully into account.”

The joint letter also asks for amendments to be made to the National Planning Policy Framework to help protect the rural landscape and heritage sites across the country.

In the letter, Lorraine is asking for the Planning Inspectorate to be told that these factors, as well as the views of local residents, are given more weight in planning decisions.
