Study into neolithic stones at wind farm

Stones believed to be 5,000 years old have been excavated from the Mynydd y Betws wind farm site above Ammanford, in an attempt to verify their significance.
Energy company Cambrian Renewable Energy Ltd (CREL) is working with the Welsh heritage group Cadw to assess claims the stones are part of a neolithic “stone row” monument.
Campaigners, worried about the impact of the turbines’ transport on local roads, have called for work to be halted in light of the find.
A spokesman from CREL said: “As soon as the discovery was made, construction works in the area were diverted until CREL worked with Carmarthenshire Council and Cadw to fully survey the area and catalogue the finds.
“This work is now complete and Cadw and Carmarthenshire Council are satisfied construction works in the area can proceed.
“The significance of the find is yet to be established but three stones have been excavated and removed under controlled conditions by retained professional archeologists, working to a methodology fully agreed to and monitored by Cadw and the Dyfed Archeological Trust.”
