ST. PAUL – A proposed wind farm in western Stearns County cleared a hurdle Thursday before the state Public Utilities Commission.
The commission voted 3-1 in favor of a draft site permit for the 40-megawatt Getty Wind Farm about 5 miles southwest of Sauk Centre in Getty and Sauk Centre townships.
The community-based wind project under development by Getty Wind and Geronimo Wind Energy is expected to cover 7,360 acres. It would have up to 26 turbines, each with a total height of roughly 450 feet including the blades.
The companies hope to have the wind farm operating by the end of the year.
Geronimo also is proposing to build a 42-megawatt Black Oak Wind Farm adjacent to the Getty Wind site, as well as the 95-megawatt Paynesville Wind Farm in central Stearns County.
