Plans to reduce number of Glenmorie Wind Farm turbines

Glenmorie Wind Farm LLP is to amend the design for its proposed wind farm just 10km south west of Bonar Bridge – significantly reducing the impact on the Dornoch Firth area.

The company said today they have decided to remove the nine turbines from the eastern ridge of the site, reducing the size of the wind farm from 43 to 34 turbines.

In November 2011, the company submitted their Section 36 application for Glenmorie Wind Farm to the Energy Consents Unit of the Scottish Government.

The decision to amend the design has been made in response to the representations received so far, from a range of organisations and individuals including Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and local community councils.

Natasha Rai, Project Manager for Glenmorie Wind Farm, says: “We have listened carefully to the consultation responses we have received and have decided to remove nine of the proposed turbines. This change will significantly reduce the visual impact of the wind farm, particularly from Bonar Bridge and the Dornoch Firth National Scenic Area.

To amend the design, Glenmorie Wind Farm LLP is required to submit an addendum to their application. This addendum will set out the removal of the nine turbines and will provide some information requested by SEPA, although the majority of the Environmental Statement for the project will remain as it was when submitted last year.
