Appeal lodged against weather mast decision

Banbury Guardian, www.banburyguardian.co.uk 14 February 2012

Renewable energy developer Regeneco has lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate against Cherwell District Council’s refusal of a temporary wind monitoring mast between Hanwell and Shotteswell.

Plans to erect a 60ft weather mast in preparation for the construction of an eight-turbine wind farm were thrown out by Cherwell District Council in December after hitting a wall of opposition from residents.

But a statement from Cyra Parkes of Regeneco said: “The company has made the decision to appeal having carefully considered the planning committee’s reasons for refusing the application. The ability to erect a wind monitoring mast would enable Regeneco to assess whether or not the site is actually viable for a wind farm project.”

Residents who formed the SHAMWAG campaign group to fight the plans have vowed to continue battling against proposals.

SHAMWAG campaigner Val Ingram said: “We will be robustly fighting the appeal because we believe it’s wrong.

“We built a strong case with two local authorities, two MPs and more than 500 people against the decision. We’re not against renewable energy but there are far less damaging ways of generating it.”
