Blimp protest planned at site of planned wind farm near Burnham

They will be flying a blimp hundreds of feet above the spot where the turbines could be built near East Huntspill.

Campaigners from the Huntspill Wind Farm Action Group will launch the balloon at the same height as the proposed turbines.

“The blimp will fly at 400ft, demonstrating the enormous height these structures extend to,” spokeswoman Julie Trott told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

It comes as two public meetings are being held with council chiefs this week to discuss the two applications from EDF Energy and Ecotricity.

Councillors will make a tour of the Huntspill area in advance of a meeting on Monday evening at 6pm in East Huntspill Village Hall to discuss the EDF plan.

A second, separate meeting will take place at Balliol Hall in West Huntspill on Thursday evening to discuss Ecotricity’s plan.

“Despite all the rhetoric of the developers promising that there will be no noise disturbance at the Fullabrook wind farm in Devon, many people’s lives have been blighted as they are being kept awake at night with the constant thumping from the turbines,” Ms Trott added.

Both EDF and Ecotricity say their turbines, placed close to the M5, will not spoil the landscape and are needed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Another wind farm has been proposed on the outskirts of Rooksbridge by developer Broadview, which is behind plans for the controversial Pilrow Wind Farm.
