Wind turbine at forest is approved

Plans for a wind turbine in Marston Moretaine have been given the go-ahead.

The Marston Vale Trust had applied for planning permission to build a wind turbine, up to 120.5 metres high, at Millennium Country Park.

The Development Control Committee considered the application and voted in favour of the turbine application.

A report to councillors stated that the application is similar to one approved in 2010. But because the height of 120.5 metres was specified, another application was needed if the trust decided to build a smaller turbine.

The council had received 11 letters of objection, and Marston Moretaine Parish Council also objected. The council raised concerns about the size of the turbine and the fact the trust had received £10,000 of electricity from waste firm Covanta, so there is no need for a turbine.

The plan was also opposed by English Heritage, which felt it would cause harm to a number of heritage assets.
