Village says no to turbines

Leighton Buzzard Observer, www.leightonbuzzardonline.co.uk 10 February 2012

Villagers in Stewkley overwhelmingly voted at a public meeting last night to oppose plans for a wind farm on land in sight of their homes.

Speakers from both sides of the debate attended a packed school hall to give voice to their views. At the end of the meeting, which was organised by Stewkley Parish Council and only open to registered electors, a secret ballot was held among the 125 residents present, which resulted in 111 opposed to the plan by Force 9, eight had no objections, three were undecided and there were two spoilt votes.

Afterwards, Paul Smith, chairman of the Stewkley Parish Council said: “I am delighted so many parishioners had braved the cold weather to attend the meeting tonight. My thanks to the presenters for their interesting and informative presentations that have sparked such a lively debate both for, and against, the proposal. The feedback will be extremely helpful to us in forming our response to the planning authority, AVDC”.
