Trumped up battle is just what we need to save our landscape

www.heraldscotland.com 11 February 2012

The way Donald Trump throws his money about to demand his way in life is abhorrent to many people (“Trump declares war on Salmond”, The Herald, February 10).

He appears to some as a bully who always gets his way, yet the people of Scotland should be thankful for his determination to put a stop to more inefficient and unsightly wind farms, while challenging Alex Salmond and the SNP’s drive to decimate the scenery of our country for ever.

If Mr Trump can make more Scots aware of the major damage the SNP energy policy will do to our country, surely driving tourists away for good, then we will all owe him a great deal.

His voice does count and anyone who considers voting for independence should listen very carefully. The future of a successful Scotland is under great threat. Let us all hope that Mr Trump wins his battle.

Iain J McConnell,

Speedybank,

Gifford.

Donald Trump is right to protest about the grossly excessive subsidising of offshore wind turbines, which at present amounts to 200% of their market value.

Yet they are only marginally less inefficient and intermittent that their hideous onshore cousins which befoul our beautiful landscape.

These turbines represent first generation technology and in a few years we will have to meet the same colossal dismantling and disposal costs as oil and gas platforms.

All we are doing is creating a hugely expensive environmental time bomb for our children.

Dr John Cameron,

St Andrews.
