Wind farm planned for South Warwickshire

Plans for a wind farm near Junction 12 of the M40, between the South Warwickshire villages of Bishop’s Itchington and Knightcote were today submitted to Stratford-on-Avon District Council.

The proposals for a wind farm with five 125-metre tall turbines and associated infrastructure on the Starbold site just east of the motorway was submitted by Broadview Ltd.

The company claim the wind farm could generate enough clean electricity to meet the average annual requirements of around 4,788 households.

James Turner-Moore, Project Manager for the proposed Starbold wind farm said: “We have looked very carefully at the Starbold site and we feel that it is an ideal location for a small number of wind turbines.

“The turbines can generate clean electricity for many years to come and, importantly, if the scheme is approved, the local area can expect to receive financial support for community-based projects.

“We now look to Stratford-on-Avon District Council to grant planning permission for the wind farm.”

On Saturday, residents in the area were taken by Broadview on a visit to one of their existing farms in Leicestershire.

In December, following two previous community consultation events, a public exhibition was conducted at Knightcote Village Hall which was attended by approximately 110 people.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council will now consult a number of organisations and local residents before making a decision on the proposal.
