Lingo Wind Farm application submitted

Fife Today, www.fifetoday.co.uk 3 February 2012

Plans or a north east Fife wind farm, costing £15 million to build, have been submitted to Fife Council.

Welsh-based company West Coast Energy wants to create a farm, as the Mail has previously detailed, which would consist of five 100-metre high turbines on land north of the B940 road between Largoward and Dunino.

To be called Lingo Wind Farm, the developer insists it would be able to power around 7000 homes a year using green energy.

No timescale has been set for when the application will be decided by planning officials, although with the proposed wind farm only having a total installed capacity of up to 12.5MW, it is expected it would not need to go before the north east Fife area committee, in whose ward it falls, unless it received five or more objections.

Meanwhile, Irene Walker, a former chief executive of Scottish Enterprise Dumfries and Galloway, as well as key industries director and rural relations director with Scottish Enterprise, has been appointed independent chair of the Lingo Wind Farm Community Benefit Forum – in a similar role to that of Kennoway minister the Rev Richard Baxter of the Devon Wood Wind Farm Liaison Forum, which is also a West Coast Energy Project.

As a group, it is charged with deciding on and negotiating a community benefit package to be paid by the energy company, should planning be granted.

A meeting of the forum, which will not discuss the proposal itself, will take place at 6.30pm on February 9 in the Stags Head Inn, Largoward.

Anyone with an interest is invited to attend, although is asked they contact Ellie Casson in advance on 0131 220 0159 or eleanor.casson@invictapa.co.uk
