Helmdon could become ‘wind farm capital’

Banbury Guardian, www.banburyguardian.co.uk 26 January 2012

A wind energy firm has launched an appeal against the rejection of plans for a five-turbine wind farm near the village of Helmdon.

Broadway Energy Development Ltd had its application for a wind farm near the B4525 between Greatworth and Helmdon rejected by South Northamptonshire District Council last year.

The case is now being investigated by the Planning Inspectorate after the company lodged an appeal on December 30. A statement from the Northamptonshire Campaign to protect rural England (CPRE) says Northamptonshire could end up with the most wind turbines anywhere in the UK after the Planning Inspectorate upheld appeals in favour of four other wind farm developments across the county in recent months.

Campaigners say this latest appeal could help make Northamptonshire the wind farm capital of England.
