When I was in my 30s, my young family had the misfortune to live underneath some inconsiderate young people with hardwood floors.
I complained, but no one would or could do anything about it because they were part of a group to whom several apartments had been rented – a strong profit motive. After a time I (but not my children or wife) became sensitized to the noise from upstairs – that is, without wishing to, I began to listen for the offending noise. My sleep was affected, I was stressed, and after two months we moved out to save my health and sanity.
I understand very well what is happening to those poor people in proximity to the turbines. It is easy to trivialize these things with “no proof” and “false correlation,” and so on, but that doesn’t mean that they are not real and that these people in Falmouth are not suffering.
From my perspective they have a much better argument than the NIMBYs who rail against turbines more than five miles away in Nantucket Sound, but then, they don’t have resources for a fight.
