Devon wind farm plans reviewed after consultation

The company bidding to develop a wind farm off the north Devon coast is reviewing its plans after concerns voiced by local people.

The Atlantic Array would have more than 400 turbines about nine miles (14km) offshore.

About 1,000 people have commented in a consultation exercise and raised concerns include visual impacts and effects on wildlife.

Developer RWE Npower Renewables said it was working to allay such concerns.

Some 417 turbines are planned for the development, which would cover an area at sea similar in size to the Isle of Wight.

RWE Npower Renewables said it hoped to have the project running by 2016 and that it could power up to 1.1m households.

However, it added that it was “aware that visual impact is a concern of the public”.

Robert Thornhill, from the company, said: “We are reviewing our plans to see whether we can make any changes to see if we can reduce the impact of the project.”

It added that there would be a second round of public consultation in the summer.
