Public to speak out on wind farm rules

A public meeting tonight about the South Australian Government’s new rules on wind farm developments will address location, health implications and appeal rights.

Up to 20 people are expected to speak at the meeting in Naracoorte.

The changes include a one-kilometre buffer zone between wind farms and homes, while also making it more difficult for third parties to object to developments.

Andrew Grear from the Planning Department says those who have made written submissions will be able to speak tonight.

“I think it’s fair to say that there will be people who will raise the issue of, their view is of unsightly conditions of wind farms, they’re not happy with the way they look, where they can be located,” he said.

“I think it’s also likely that people will raise the issue that they can no longer in certain areas have an appeal to the Environment Resources and Development Court.

“People are making their views known and I rest assured that all views that people make are well and truly considered by, one, the independent committee, two, us as a Government agency and all of those views are put to the Minister and the Minister will consider those.”
