Oldbury-on-Severn wind farm appeal is rejected

A planning appeal for a four-turbine wind farm in South Gloucestershire has been rejected.

Wind Prospect’s Stoneyard Lane scheme, in Oldbury-on-Severn, was refused planning permission in April 2011 and the company then appealed.

The application led to complaints from residents who said it was “grossly out of proportion” with its surroundings.

The firm had proposed four turbines which would have been 127m (416ft) high and one 80m (262ft) mast alongside.

“We are extremely disappointed that our appeal was dismissed,” said Jonny Murphy, development manager from Wind Prospect.

“We believe that Stoneyard Lane is still a very good site for a wind farm, demonstrated by the fact that it was initially recommended for approval and didn’t receive any objections from government bodies such as Natural England or English Heritage.

“There is a real need for projects like Stoneyard Lane wind farm to help meet our renewable energy targets and secure the UK’s energy future.”

South Gloucestershire Council has a target of reducing its CO2 emissions by 60% by 2050.

There are currently no operational wind farms within the South Gloucestershire Council boundary.
