North East Beds MP Alistair Burt has voiced his anger at a planning inspector’s decision to supprot a wind farm close to Langford and Biggleswade.

He said he was ‘deeply disappointed’ with the inspector’s decision to support the application after a public inquiry. Central Beds Council had earlier refused the application and Langford Parish Council had led concerted local opposition.

Mr Burt said: “I believe the parish council and the residents made a good case and I simply don’t agree with the inspector’s findings that this will not damage the landscape or people’s quality of life.

“I will be speaking to the councillors and the local parish council chairman as soon as possible on this issue.”

He said an appeal by Central Beds Council could be considered although he advised people to be ‘realistic’ as to whether that would happen because of the legal implications.

But he said: “If there is an opportunity for further opposition I will be supporting that.

“Off-shore wind power is fine, but there is a serious doubt as to the economic and efficiency arguments of on-shore wind power.

“But the inspector has put in some conditions on this application and I will be looking at these very carefully.”
